The Truck Driver Angel

It was Thanksgiving 2010, and Judy decided to drive to Reno Nevada to celebrate the holiday with her family. A snowstorm was expected, but she was confident she could handle it. She left home about 10 am; it was about a seven-hour drive. As she reached the Salt Flats, the promised storm hit and the snow came so heavy that her wipers and defroster could not keep the windshield clear. She had to stop occasionally and scrape it. The storm increased in intensity obliterating all signs and road markers. Judy was driving virtually blind. She thought about turning around, but how, and where? She kept going for what seemed like hours, driving at about 15 mph, still having to get out and scrape the windshield. By now, she had no idea where she was. Just then an 18-wheeler came up right behind her. Judy was blocking the road and he couldn’t get around her. She scooted over enough for him to pass and he sped up again. She tried to keep up, but she couldn’t—too snowy—too dangerous. Besides, her windshield was still icing up. She stopped—again– to clean it off. As she stepped out into the storm, she noticed that the truck driver had stopped also. When she got back into the car and started rolling forward, he did too. Judy said:

God bless him. He is piloting me. We do this for hours. Stop and go, stop and go. He is not leaving me. I think that there has never been a truck driver that was prayed for more than I was praying for him.

They kept going until midnight when Judy was utterly exhausted. She had been on the road now for fourteen hours. She saw a sign that read, “Winnemucca.” Wait a minute, “Winnemucca?” Winnemucca is only about five hours from Salt Lake. She decided to exit and find a motel. As she turned off, she blinked her headlights and, in response, he flashed his taillights. That’s all she can do to thank him.

“I find a motel and check in,” she said. “I fell into bed, clothes and all, with prayers of gratitude for the truck driver angel that was sent to pilot me.”
