Tabitha

So often in testimonies of prayer it is evident that God hears and answers prayers, even and especially, in little things.

I know of a family who has a daughter that was diagnosed as bipolar. In the course of living and learning, they discovered that life was easier for her and for them all if she had a pet. So, they got her a cat named Tabitha. Tabitha turned out to be a wonderful friend. She would listen intently with those non-judgmental eyes, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning to all the problems of a growing girl.

Years passed, and Tabitha became ill. Her kidneys were shutting down and she was suffering. The family all agreed that the best thing was “to let her return to Heavenly Father.” Once that was done, a disagreement arose as to what to do with her remains. Most of the family wanted to cremate Tabitha and have her returned in a pretty little wooden box with her name on it.

However, the cost to do that was $287. For dad that was tough to justify. Dad had grown up on a dairy farm where the only time you spent that kind of money on an animal was if it was profitable in the end.

Everyone agreed, including dad, to submit the matter to the Lord in prayer. The answer came back, and all were agreed that it was okay to spend the money, especially, if it would bring comfort to the daughter who had so loved her.

A week later they received word that Tabitha was ready to be picked up. On the very day they picked up the box, the family received a letter that the county had updated their computer systems and discovered that they had overpaid their property taxes by… you guessed it–$287. A refund check was enclosed.

Dad said to me,

“Coincidence? Luck? Not a chance! This was a powerful example of God listening to individual prayers and tailoring those blessings to specific needs. Just amazing, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from my Father in Heaven.”
