Stardust

One evening back in the late 90’s, I was meditating with my eyes closed and listening to native American music. I suddenly felt a presence from the other side of the veil and knew immediately it was a loved one who had passed. It was clear that whoever it was wanted desperately to push through the veil and communicate with me.

I wasn’t sure it was “appropriate” to ask, but I felt such anxiousness from the being on the other side that I said a short, intense prayer, pleading with Heavenly Father to let whoever it was on the other side of the veil to pass through. Instantly, our horse, Stardust, whom we had to put down a few years before because of liver disease, burst through the veil and into my presence.

She had always been my favorite of all our horses, the one I felt most connected to. I was startled at first because I expected it to be one of my ancestors, but in the same instant was filled with overwhelming love and joy. She expressed what joy she had in being our horse and how grateful she was for our earthly experiences together. I was sobbing great sobs of joy, but my wife heard me and rushed to me, fearing that something was wrong. As she did so, the “vision” faded, but I was still so overwhelmed with emotion that it took me several seconds to compose myself enough to be able to assure her that everything was all right. In fact, I had never felt that everything was more all right than I did at that moment.

As I came down from that celestial high, I thought of Joseph F. Smith’s vision of his father, Hyrum, and his Uncle Joseph riding the streets of heaven on their favorite horses. I give thanks that there are no insignificant relationships in our Heavenly Father’s eyes, and that ALL the relationships we enjoy here will endure in full felicity throughout eternity.
