Shattered Pulleys and Prayer

Fran Caughlin tells the following story:

I have driven across the Mojave desert from Salt Lake City to San Diego several times in a 16 year old Honda pilot. I made this trip on my own as a senior female. My son and his family lived in California, so I was doing this for the purpose of seeing my kids and grandkids.

Before I left, I had a prayer that myself, the car, and all else would function properly, including the tires, as I was on my way home from California on one of these trips. I made it to St. George. I always stop in St. George to fill up on gas and usually to get something to eat.

On this particular trip I had prayed, as always, to have a safe and uneventful trip, however this time in Saint George I pulled into a fast food restaurant after getting gas and ordered my food.  As I was waiting by the window to get my food my vehicle started violently shaking and making a metal against metal grinding sound. I kind of panicked and turned the car off. My food was handed to me and I said a quick little prayer. I asked what I should do now.

Then I got the strong impression to continue on my journey. I turned the car back on and there were no more shaking or horrible grinding sounds. So I pulled out onto the road and again said a little prayer asking if I should get on the freeway and I felt to do so. It seemed like everything was normal and so I continued on my way, knowing that it could not be normal.

After that experience I hung onto the thought that I had a prayer and I continued to pray all the way home. As I was driving down the freeway, getting closer and closer to Salt Lake, I kept getting impressions to go between certain speeds and not stop for anything. That was OK, because I had just filled up on gas.

Normally, I would stop in Salt Lake where my husband works, and say hi to him. But I had the impression not to stop for anything so I continued on.

I got home after much prayer and spiritual guidance and was very happy to be home. The next day I took the car to my mechanic. He looked it over and found that one of the belt pulleys shattered. That’s what was causing the shaking and the noise. According to him there is no way that car should’ve made it from St. George to Bountiful. With that pulley being shattered however, prayer and the Lord’s help got me there, and I was very thankful.

I know the Lord hears our prayers and is mindful of our needs.
