He Knows Where YOU Are
My friend Jaynie shared the following story with me. When she was just fourteen years old, her parents took the family to General Conference in Salt Lake City. In those days it was held in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. Jaynie had always watched Conference on television, and she was so excited to be able to see it live. She said,
“The night before Conference, I prayed with all of my heart that we would be able to get into the tabernacle. The exact words in my prayer to Heavenly Father were: “I don’t care if I have to sit on the edge of a seat with my feet in the aisle, if we can just get in. ” “
The following morning, they arrived at the Tabernacle at 4:30 AM and there was already a line. There were two missionaries in the line ahead of them and Jaynie’s mom told them how much Jaynie wanted to get in. From 4:30 to 9:00 they stood in line. Finally, the doors opened, and the line began to move. Can you imagine the anticipation and hope? But then, just after the two missionaries entered the building, the usher said there was no more room and the door closed. Jaynie said,
“As the door closed, I huddled up against the wall outside the door as tears trickled down my face. I did not think that my prayers had been answered. My parents said that we might as well go, but we hesitated there for a few minutes.”
They were just about to leave when the doors opened again, and the usher came out and said they could fit four more people. It turns out that the two missionaries had given up their seats for Jaynie’s family, and if they could squeeze in tight they just might fit. Jaynie finishes the story,
“As we sat down on the bench it was really crowded, so my mother told me that if I would turn my back to her side and put my feet in the aisle it would make more room. I did so, and as I did, I remembered the words of my prayer. I was sitting on the edge of a seat with my feet in the aisle. I felt the chills going up and down my spine. Not only had my prayers been answered, but I had been given exactly what I had asked for. I had not told anyone about what I had asked for in my prayers. At that moment, I knew that Heavenly Father really knew me and that He knew where I was. ”
In conclusion, I believe Jaynie said it best. She said,
“It really does not matter who you are or where you are, and it really does not matter if there is anyone else who knows where you are. He knows where YOU are…. I don’t know how He hears and answers every prayer, but I know that He does.”
And indeed, He does! And I, like you, am living on that hope.
