Winds of Opposition

My friend, Jean, was preparing to teach the children a very important song. She colored pictures to help with that, and then, wanting to get them laminated, she put them into a folder.

As she went out to the car with her arms full, she happened to set the folder of papers on top the car. She drove off—down the street, around a corner and down another street. Just then, she noticed something flying off behind the car. “Oh, the folder!”

She stopped and climbed out. The folder was gone, along with all those pictures she had worked so hard on. She started back down the street the way she had come. To her astonishment, she found every picture. They were all there and face down on the asphalt, undamaged.

What added more to this tender mercy was that “it was an extremely windy day,” and yet every picture stayed where it landed and did not fly away in the strong winds. Moreover, not a single car had come down those streets to damage the pictures.

Considering it a miracle, Jean gathered up her pictures and drove to the store. She described what happened next:

“As I was heading towards the front door of the store, I had the pictures in both of my hands holding onto them tightly, because it was so windy, and I did not want to lose them. Suddenly, I felt as if an unseen person ripped them out of my hands and threw them onto the parking lot.”

Once again, the folder of pictures went flying into the strong wind and landed on the pavement—and did not move. Have you ever experienced the frustration of trying to chase down a piece of paper blowing in the wind?

To Jean, it was another miracle. Someone did not want her to teach that lesson and another someone held those wispy pieces of paper in place, without any damage, long enough for her to retrieve them.

We can and must expect opposition when we are about to do a good thing. Oh, by the way, what was that song she was going to teach the children, “The Lord Gave Me A Temple.”
