The Miracle Rain
Life constantly presents us with very specific challenges. If we want God’s help overcoming those challenges then it is essential to pray specifically about them. Lazy generalities will not cover daunting specifics.
Beth Rice tells the story of an event that occurred about 20 years in a small town in Alabama. It was a time of dangerous drought. Fires were burning in the area and more threatened.
Beth had picked up her children from school and was driving home when an alert came over the radio that the fire classification had been upgraded and a no-burn warning was in effect.
Her son, Kirk, asked her to explain what was happening. She told him that because there had been no rain “fires were more likely to get started or to burn further than they would if it had been raining.”
Kirk then asked what could be done about it, and mom replied, “we need to pray for relief.”
To which the boy said, “OK, I will do it now!” Everyone in the car quieted down and Kirk began his prayer. “Heavenly Father, please let it rain at our house, TODAY!”
Beth described what happened next:
Now it was a blue-sky day with a few fluffy white clouds in the sky. No rain in the forecast – when as we started down the hill and could see our house on the corner, a black cloud seemed to fold out of heaven and the bottom fell out at …ONLY our house. The rain reached about 3-4 feet into the streets and over our property line in the back. It rained so hard that we couldn’t even get out of the car to go inside. We sat outside for approximately 10-12 minutes when the rain stopped as quickly as it started, and the dark cloud seemed to fold back into the heavens.
The family was humbled by the miracle rain. Mom told Kirk, “Next time, make sure you ask for rain for everyone.”
The simple trusting faith of a child brought an indisputable miracle that burns in the family memory and still inspires faith. Indeed, prayer is the way to miracles.
