The Little Things

Barbara Luttrell John tells of the experience when she used to work as a special education teacher for fourth and sixth grade students at Rose Hill Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia.

One morning she was out on recess. Four or five students were running around and playing.  She happened to look down and there in the grass was a four leaf clover. So she picked it.  One of the students came over, and she told them she was lucky to find a four leaf clover, and she gave it to that student.  Word spread, and pretty soon, other students were coming and asking to have one too.

Well, Barbara didn’t want to disappoint anyone, so she offered a little prayer. And asked Heavenly Father to help her find a four leaf clover for each of her students.  In a short time, she had found one for each student. They were thrilled. Later, Barbara said:

“It was lunchtime. And as I usually did, I walked across the parking lot to the public library that was next door to the school. Upon leaving, I said a prayer to thank Heavenly Father for helping me find those clovers for my students.  Actually, I was marveling that he would make such a small request a priority.  I finished my prayer, stepped down off the sidewalk and looked down.”

Plain as day.  Right there below her  was a five leaf clover. Barbara said:

“I was amazed at this gift from Heavenly Father, indicating to me that he cares about the little things in life as well as the big things. He truly loves to bless his children who love him and trust him enough to ask for something in faith.”

And then she adds, just for perspective, finding a four leaf clover is 10,000 to one.

Finding a five leaf clover? Is reported to be 100,000 to one.  Yes, indeed, Barbara,  God cares about the little things.
