The Five-Leaf Clover

My friend Barbara worked for years as an elementary special education teacher in Alexandria, Virginia. One morning while the children were out playing for recess, Barbara happened to look down and there was a four-leaf clover. She picked it. One of her students came over and she explained how lucky it is to find a four-leaf clover. She showed the clover and then gave it to the student.

Word got around and before long the other students wanted one. Why didn’t she have one for them too? Not wanting to disappoint, Barbara offered a prayer and asked Heavenly Father to help her find a four-leaf clover for each student.

Before long she had found one for each student and they were thrilled.

Some time later, Barbara was leaving the school on her lunch break. As she did, she offered another prayer—this time to thank Heavenly Father for helping her find those clovers for her students.

“Actually,” she said, “I was marveling that He would make such a small request a priority.”

She finished her prayer and stepped off the sidewalk into the grass and looked down. Beneath her feet, plain as day was a five-leaf clover. Barbara said:

“I was amazed at this gift from Father indicating to me that He cares about the little things in life, as well as the big things!  He truly loves to bless His children who love Him and trust Him enough to ask for something in faith.”

And by the way, lest you misunderstand, Barbara shared the odds: finding a 4-leaf clover is 10,000 to one. Finding a 5-leaf clover is 100,000 to one!!!
