Prayer

Richard L. Evans once said “He who ceases to pray loses a great friendship.”

That statement is true. And like all friendships, even ours with our Heavenly Father takes time and effort on our part to develop. It doesn’t come naturally. Misunderstandings must be corrected, and doubt and even laziness must be overcome. I like this story from the life of a young friend of mine.

As a small child, she shared a room with her sister. As they would go to bed at night, she would either make sure she said her prayers first or she would wait until her sister was finished. In her childlike innocence, she believed that if she and her sister were praying at the same time, Heavenly Father would get confused, wouldn’t understand, or would ignore her entirely. She wanted His full and undivided attention.

Well, since then, my friend has come to understand that she always has His undivided attention.

In her own words, “I still don’t know how He can be aware of us all, hear us all, and know us all at the same time, but I know He can.”
